    We’ll check in every couple weeks with a quick pulse check to ask how you’re doing and capture a snapshot of your goal progress.

Traditional finance tools weren’t made with POCs in mind. We understand the realities of sending money home to family, navigating the journey as a first-generation wealth builder, and confronting the historical barriers to wealth creation faced by BIPOC individuals.

Darren

Darren is a financial coach with 17 years experience serving households making under $70k. He grew up in a household that often struggled with money. He’s passionate about reducing the taboo around talking about money, especially among POCs.

Alma has been coaching for 10 years and has provided financial counseling to NYC residents and workers, youths, individuals on the pathway to U.S. citizenship, and individuals with disabilities who are transitioning into the workforce.

Frequently asked questions

  • Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, and other People of Color face unique challenges with income inequality and building wealth in the US. We want to create a safe space for POC to talk openly about financial goals and challenges.

    Allys are welcome. Our programs are open to everyone but are designed specifically for those in the POC community.

  • Fill out our sign-up form here to tell us about yourself and your financial goals. It will only take ~4 minutes.

    Then you can choose the best plan for you and schedule time to meet with our coaches. We'll connect you with our coaching team via a private chat in our web app, SMS text, or email.

  • We really believe in the benefits and power of financial coaching and want to make it as accessible as possible. Paying our coaches a fair wage for their time is also important to us, and we’ve done our best to try and balance the two.

  • 1st meeting: Your coach will host a discovery call on Zoom to get to know you, your financial situation, your financial goals, and your motivation for reaching those goals.

    2nd Meeting: You’ll discuss clear steps to achieve your top goals and our coaches will help make sure they are realistic and measurable.

    3rd Meeting (and beyond): You share your progress and barriers to achieving your goals while making clear steps to achieving your goals. Your coach gives structure and guidance on that plan and makes sure you feel empowered.

    Community Coaching Sessions:     Every other month your coaches will host open Zoom sessions for all subscribers. Drop in to listen or ask questions.

  • Yes! When you sign up for coaching, we’ll ask you to choose a coach and schedule your first meeting on their calendar!

  • When you subscribe and pay for coaching you will be emailed a link to your unique Stripe payment page, from there you can cancel your subscription. Or reach out to us through the My Money Story web app chat or at hello@mymoneystory.com and we’ll be happy to help you.

  • We ask for some limited financial info during sign-up to help us understand your goals and situation, but we don’t sell your data and will keep it private and secure. Anything shared in a coaching session is confidential.

  • Coaching focuses on empowering clients through financial goal setting, powerful questioning, active listening, judgment-free accountability, and presenting the best financial options available to them.

    You are the expert in your financial life and your coach works with you to make sure you are on track to meet your financial goals.

  • Yes! We serve folks of all incomes. Prices are higher for those that make over $70K, but know that higher price subsidizes the cost of coaching for our lower-income clients.
